How is professional teeth whitening performed?

Our dental office offers two types of professional teeth whitening services: in-office and custom-made trays.

In-office procedures cover vulnerable areas inside your mouth, including the lips and gums, to prevent exposure to the high-concentrate hydrogen peroxide gel that we apply directly to your teeth. We then activate the gel, and you will rest comfortably for a short time until the gel works. Finally, we remove the coverings and rinse the gel away.

For custom-made trays, we will take a custom mold of your teeth to make clear trays that you can take home with a whitening gel. These trays minimize the risk of the whitening gel affecting your gums or mouth, and you can quickly whiten your teeth from the comfort of your home. Simply place the whitening gel inside the trays and place the trays in your mouth.

How do I whiten my teeth at home?

You can try a few simple remedies if you’re looking for ways to whiten your teeth at home without visiting a dentist. You can brush your teeth with baking soda, use hydrogen peroxide to brush or rinse on an occasional basis (dilute the peroxide to a 1.5% solution instead of using the standard 3% solution available over the counter), use apple cider vinegar as a brushing or rinsing agent, eat more fruits and vegetables as they are suitable for your overall health and dental health, avoid foods that can stain your teeth such as coffee, soda, and wine, limit your sugar intake, and don’t forget to brush and floss twice a day – it’s still one of the most powerful tools you have.
